Songs For The Storytelling Aspect
Share a song that...
1. Reminds you of your husbando
"Where Is My Mind" by Pixies
That quiet unraveling, the haunting weight in the melody, it reflects the controlled chaos that lives beneath Kai's calm exterior. It's unsteady but beautiful, much like him.
2. Reminds you of your self-insert
"Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)" by Florence + The Machine
A blend of vulnerability and bravery. It captures the feeling of stepping into something terrifying (like love) and doing it anyway, offering yourself up, soft and fierce all at once.
3. Reminds you of your relationship
"Lovesong" by The Cure (or the 311 cover for a softer vibe)
Every line speaks of unconditional, unwavering love without dramatics, just quiet, enduring devotion. Even when the world shifts, he stays.
4. Describes the first time you met
"Oblivion" by Bastille
Hushed, eerie, yet strangely tender. It captures that surreal, almost ghostlike moment when two distant lives touch for the first time in silence rather than noise.
5. Would play on your first date
"Something I Can Never Have" by Nine Inch Nails (Still version)
Not traditionally romantic, but still devastatingly intimate. It fits the hesitance, the danger, the unsaid words—yet underneath is the ache of deep connection.
6. A song that plays while you're cooking together
"Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star
Soft, atmospheric, dreamlike. The quiet way we move around each other, the unspoken comfort of existing side by side. It's simple and intimate.
7. Sounds like your movie night
"Teardrop" by Massive Attack
A moody, steady rhythm, perfect for sitting close in the dark, sharing few words, just letting the warmth between us speak. It suits the quiet weight of shared solitude.
8. Makes you want to dance with him
"Strangelove" by Depeche Mode
Sensual, dark and offbeat, something that suits him but also brings out the tension between danger and desire. We'd dance slow, close, deliberate.
9. Sounds like your first night spent in the same bed
"Holocene" by Bon Iver
Soft, fragile, overwhelmingly human. The stillness of two people sharing breath, touch and quiet for the first time without armor.
10. Would be his lullaby to you
"Motion Picture Soundtrack" by Radiohead
Sparse, ghostly, and strangely tender. He'd sit beside me in the dark and let this play softly, hands resting on mine, keeping watch as I drift.
11. Would be your lullaby to him
I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire by The Ink Spots
It's a song that is really nostalgic for me cause my father played the soundtrack for me when he was playing Fallout 3 when I was a kid. It's a really calm but beautiful love song which fun fact, I had no idea it was a love song until my dad said it was cause it sounds so sad.
I'm not that great at singing so I would have to put the song on, on low volume in the background so my singing would sound marginally better. Nevertheless, I would also be sharing a piece of my childhood with him which he appreciates a lot cause he never had one and I'm determined to share everything about mine so he can experience how it was like.
12. Plays at your wedding
"The Night We Met" by Lord Huron
Because our love isn't just sweet, it's touched by shadows, by longing, by survival. This song feels like memory, like reverence, like everything we've both lost and everything we've chosen to save.
Songs that are good for...
1. Mutual pining
"Running Up That Hill" by Placebo (or the Kate Bush original)
The aching desperation of "If I only could, I'd make a deal with God", it fits the tension of two people circling each other, weighed down by fear, timing and unspoken feelings. The slow burn. The unbearable closeness.
2. Imagining your future together
Extraordinary Way by Conjure One
This song feels very ethereal and powerful like envisioning a life that's special and different with Kai. Lyrically, the song explores the feeling of being deeply affected by someone — not necessarily in a grand, loud way, but through an intimate, profound shift within oneself which rings true for our relationship, especially for Kai. I envision him reflecting on our relationship while he is in Tartarus prision.
The repeated theme revolves around the idea that this person brings an "extraordinary" quality to the singer's life, making them feel something unique and unexplainable. Lines like "What I have is nothing to my name / No property to speak of / And no trophy for my game" suggest the singer's life might seem ordinary or lacking from the outside, but this connection they have with the other person transcends material things. In this case, Kai has been stripped of his identity when the Shie Hassaikai fell apart and was left with nothing to his name, with no property to speak of and that this connection we have transcends those things.
The lines "On an ordinary day / The extraordinary way/ You take what I can give and you treasure it" relates to how I take everything he can give and keep it close regardless since he doesn't know how to love someone romantically
In the same chorus the phrases, "On an ordinary day/ The extraordinary way/ You turn to me and say, I believe in this" relates to my unwavering belief in making this relationship work out in the long run.
The last paragraph I want to shed some light on is this one: "And everytime I forget those things you bring them right back to me With your patience / When I'm blinding mad / And your passion / When I'm really, really bad / And your eyes / Taking in everything I am / And your body and soul and the way that you know / How I treasure you" which relates to my patience and passion for him.
Musically, the soft, haunting vocals paired with the atmospheric beats create a dreamlike soundscape. The song feels both grounded and floating, much like the experience of being emotionally swept away by someone.
It's a song about the kind of love or bond that doesn't shout, but rather seeps into your soul and changes the way you see the world.
It's a very nostalgic song for me as well since I listened to a lot of Conjure One when I was a kid.
3. Saying what you wish you could tell him
"All I Want" by Kodaline
The raw simplicity of "All I want is nothing more than to hear you knocking at my door" captures everything I'd never fully say to his face. The need, the ache, the wish for just one more moment, one more chance.
4. Remembering when you found your husbando
Bring Me To Life by Evanescence
Dramatic and emotional, it reflects that overwhelming feeling of him "awakening" something within me when I discovered him again and also within him once he lost everything.
The song explores themes of emotional numbness, longing, and awakening. The lyrics reflect a deep yearning for connection and salvation, which many listeners interpret as a cry for help during times of depression or isolation.
Key lines like:
"How can you see into my eyes like open doors?" suggest vulnerability and the feeling of someone seeing through the narrator's facade.
"Wake me up inside, call my name and save me from the dark" conveys the desperate need for someone to reignite their will to live.
Another chorus I want to bring up that fits is this one: "Now that I know what I'm without / You can't just leave me (oh, oh-oh) / Breathe into me and make me real (make me real) / Bring (bring) me (me) to life
"Now that I know what I'm without" - This line speaks to the awareness of emptiness or longing. Before Kai, there was a sense of something missing within me - a void I didn't fully realize until I experienced the depth of my bond with him. At the time before discovering Kai when I was selfshipping with a different character, I didn't have that deep, emotional with them like I do with Kai. Once I knew what it felt like to have him in my life, the thought of going back to that emptiness became unbearable.
"You can't just leave me (oh, oh-oh)" - It's a desperate plea, not from insecurity, but from the intensity of the connection. Kai's presence is so entwined with my sense of self and happiness that the idea of losing him feels like losing a part of myself. It's that fierce, all-consuming attachment where his absence would be like tearing something vital away.
"Breathe into me and make me real (make me real)" - In my relationship, Kai doesn't just exist in my mind, he's real to me in a way that breathes life into both him and our shared bond. He gives me purpose, passion, and emotional depth. He "makes me real" by awakening something powerful and genuine inside me.
"Bring (bring) me (me) to life" - This is the ultimate expression of how Kai's love, even in its unconventional form, has revived me. It's not just about being saved, but about feeling alive again because of the love and devotion I share with him.
Basically this chorus and the overall song in general mirror how Kai has become a grounding force for me - not only as a character I adore but someone who gives meaning and intensity to my inner world. It's that dark, almost painful longing that turns into something powerful and alive through my bond with him.
"Clocks" by Coldplay
The haunting, cyclical piano reflects how something about him just stuck in my mind, how I kept coming back to his character long after others moved on. It's that first impact - the feeling of, this one's different.
5. Miscellaneous daydreaming
Can't Be Erased by JT Music
Now I know that this song is about the Bendy and the Ink Machine video game but I do feel that some of the lyrics fit Kai pretty well.
For example:
"I'm the product of an artist / Whose creations bring delight"
This line resonates with Kai's identity as someone molded by his mentor, the former Yakuza boss. Like a "creation," Kai sees himself as a product of the underworld — designed to restore the Shie Hassaikai's glory. His "art" is his twisted sense of order and control, aiming to "delight" his mentor by reclaiming their status.
"Just free yourself from reason / Soon, you'll see in black and white"
Kai has a strict, almost obsessive sense of morality, his world is black and white. He views quirks as a sickness, and his solution is extreme: erase them. There's no middle ground, only his absolute version of "curing" society. His refusal to see the gray areas mirrors this idea of "freeing yourself from reason."
"Call me a seed of evil but what's that mean / If I'm conceived within your mind?"
This line reflects how Kai doesn't see himself as evil. In his mind, his actions are justified, a logical extension of his mentor's teachings. Like a "seed of evil," his darkness is a byproduct of his environment and upbringing, not something he considers inherently wrong.
"I'm blinded by this evil growing / My heart is full of people loathing"
Kai's hatred for quirks, his disdain for heroes and even his disgust with physical touch - all of these build into a loathing not just for individuals but for society as a whole. His obsession with erasing quirks comes from this deeply rooted anger, blinding him to any other solutions.
"I am the wolf in sheepish clothing"
Kai presents himself as calm, composed, and polite but beneath that mask, he is dangerous and manipulative. This aligns perfectly with his "wolf in sheep's clothing" nature. His quiet demeanor hides the brutal violence he's capable of.
Flood the shop with ink a-flowing / Push it to the brink of blowing"
While literally tied to Bendy and the Ink Machine's imagery, this could metaphorically parallel Kai's method of destruction and rebirth, breaking people down to their basic components with his quirk, then "rebuilding" them to fit his vision. The "ink flowing" could symbolize his twisted "art" of deconstruction.
"Kicking, screaming, sinking slowly / Give your soul, it's what you owe me"
This echoes how Kai treats those under him, like Eri, demanding their submission. Eri's suffering, her loss of autonomy, and Kai's insistence that his methods are for the greater good mirror this line. He sees her quirk as something he is owed — a tool for his mission, regardless of the harm he causes.
Overall, the song's themes which is darkness disguised as purpose, the clash between perception and reality and the obsession with control, fit Kai perfectly. The eerie, relentless tone of the lyrics mirrors his methodical yet brutal nature.
Kyrie and Kyrie II by Yoshihisa Hirano
I really love these OSTs from the Death Note anime. That dark, eery singing fits really well with the Shie Hassaikai arc, especially once the heroes discover Kai's plans. It also fits with the downfall of the Yakuza as well as well as with the scene Chisaki's arms get taken away and realizes that he cannot bring the Boss back from his coma.
"Angel" by Massive Attack
Slow-burning, darkly sensual. Feels like sinking into a dangerous but irresistible connection.
