Songs For The Storytelling Aspect

1. Reminds you of your husbando
Disease by Lady Gaga
I mean come on, it's obvious. The song's lyrics and tone align with his personality, motivations, and struggles perfectly. So lets break down the parallels cause I love analyzing him:
Themes of Control and Corruption
The song has themes of control and corruption and Kai is obsessed with order and purification, believing quirks are a "disease" corrupting society. The song's lyrics explore the idea of infection, toxicity, and an overwhelming force taking hold that parallels his worldview. He sees quirks as an affliction that must be "cured" through his own methods—ironically, his own actions are deeply destructive and infectious in nature.
The Push-and-Pull of Obsession
Disease carries an intense, almost suffocating energy, much like Kai’s relentless pursuit of his goals. His fixation on controlling Eri and forcing his vision onto the world mirrors the song’s themes of being consumed by something beyond one's control. Whether it's love, power, or ideology, the song evokes the idea of a toxic, inescapable force—just as Chisaki becomes consumed by his own twisted ideals.
Isolation and Dehumanization
Kai distances himself from physical touch, seeing it as dirty and beneath him. The song’s themes of being overtaken by something (be it love, a virus, or an obsession) could reflect his own internal fears of corruption and impurity. The way he operates—calculating, ruthless, and detached—echoes the song’s almost clinical, yet deeply emotional desperation.
The Violent Undertones
The song’s dark, almost aggressive energy aligns with Kai’s brutal nature. Disease has a raw, chaotic, and unhinged sound that mirrors his violent tendencies and his ultimate downfall when he loses control of his carefully built empire.
The Inevitable Collapse
Like many Lady Gaga songs, Disease builds up to an almost manic crescendo, much like Chisaki's own trajectory—starting from controlled ambition and spiraling into desperation as his plans unravel. His obsession with power leads to his own downfall, much like how the song implies losing oneself entirely to an uncontrollable force.
2. Reminds you of your self-insert
Brooklyn Baby by Lana Del Rey and Prey by The Neighbourhood
So I do not use a self-insert and instead, I ship my real self with Kai so these are one of the many songs I associate myself with.
For Brooklyn Baby, it reflects the bolder, more self-assured side of me — the part that’s unapologetically myself, with a bit of sarcasm and flair. It shows my confidence and the way I carry myself, even when others might not understand me or call me weird for it.
On the other side of the spectrum, Prey speaks to the more vulnerable side of me, especially within my relationship with Kai. It captures the darker, more intense emotions I feel — the longing, the ache, and the rawness of loving him so deeply.
3. Reminds you of your relationship
Ecstasy by Jake Webber and Johnnie Guilbert
If I were to describe our relationship in a couple of words, it would be dark, intense, deranged and twisted. This song conveys an intense, almost obsessive love with dark, gothic imagery and since I'm a sucker for anything gothic and for dark love songs, Ecstasy is a perfect match to descibe our relationship in song form.
It also portrays a relationship that is all-consuming, where love feels like both salvation and destruction. The gothic and emo-inspired imagery of death, pain, and obsession fits into a theme of romanticized suffering, which is common in alternative and emo music. Ultimately, Ecstasy captures the thrill and danger of loving someone so intensely that it feels like both a drug and a curse.
4. Describes the first time you met
Something In The Way by Nirvana
While not having many lyrics, it more than makes up with its dark, brooding tone which captures the intensity and intimidation I felt when meeting Kai for the first time
5. Would play on your first date
Telephones by Vacations
It's laid-back but has a longing feel which is perfect for a first date's mix of anticipation and nerves. The lyrics: "I wish I could live without you." "But you're a part of me." resonates with me because it describes my trepidation of being in a relationship with him due to his controversy but later accepting it and not paying any attention to it.
6. Sounds like your movie night
You're All I Want by Cigarettes After Sex
The dreamy, intimate vibe fits the theme of a cozy movie night. I like to imagine us curled up on the couch together on a rainy night while watching those early 2000s and 20l0s movies from my childhood.
7. Makes you want to dance with him
Lonely Day by System of a Down
Yes, it is a bit of a depressing song but I do like how calm it is compared to other hard rock/alternative metal songs and the lyrics ring home on how we don't like being alone, the feeling of loneliness that comes with it and how we can't be without the other.
8. Sounds like your first night spent in the same bed
Sextape by Deftones
A sensual and moody song, it really captures that raw, emotional closeness of sharing a bed and other things that happen in it.
9. Would be his lullaby to you
At Last by Etta James
This is a song that Kai said that described his feelings towards our relationship as the song portrays the feeling of finally finding love. It doesn't have many lyrics but it's still a cute song to listen. I headcanon that Kai has a good singing voice so I think he'll do a great job singing it.
10. Would be your lullaby to him
I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire by The Ink Spots
It's a song that is really nostalgic for me cause my father played the soundtrack for me when he was playing Fallout 3 when I was a kid. It's a really calm but beautiful love song which fun fact, I had no idea it was a love song until my dad said it was cause it sounds so sad.
I'm not that great at singing so I would have to put the song on, on low volume in the background so my singing would sound marginally better. Nevertheless, I would also be sharing a piece of my childhood with him which he appreciates a lot cause he never had one and I'm determined to share everything about mine so he can experience how it was like.
11. Plays at your wedding
The World Is Ugly by My Chemical Romance
Yes, I'm putting a MCR song in here lol but it's a really good one and pretty cute if I do say so myself. I haven't exactly fully envisioned how our wedding is going to be like but I've decided that this song will be playing during our dance on that special day. It feels nostalgic to me as well because I listened to this song back when I first got together with him. And I had also listened to this song when I was playing Boku No Hero Roblox while I had first discovered the website SpaceHey. Fun times!
Songs that are good for...
1. Mutual pining
Heart-Shaped Box by Nirvana
It has that twisted, intense longing which is perfect for mutual pining, especially with the kind of dark, all-consuming love I feel for Kai.
2. Imagining your future together
Extraordinary Way by Conjure One
This song feels very ethereal and powerful like envisioning a life that's special and different with Kai. Lyrically, the song explores the feeling of being deeply affected by someone — not necessarily in a grand, loud way, but through an intimate, profound shift within oneself which rings true for our relationship, especially for Kai. I envision him reflecting on our relationship while he is in Tartarus prision.
The repeated theme revolves around the idea that this person brings an "extraordinary" quality to the singer's life, making them feel something unique and unexplainable. Lines like "What I have is nothing to my name / No property to speak of / And no trophy for my game" suggest the singer’s life might seem ordinary or lacking from the outside, but this connection they have with the other person transcends material things. In this case, Kai has been stripped of his identity when the Shie Hassaikai fell apart and was left with nothing to his name, with no property to speak of and that this connection we have transcends those things.
The lines "On an ordinary day / The extraordinary way/ You take what I can give and you treasure it" relates to how I take everything he can give and keep it close regardless since he doesn't know how to love someone romantically
In the same chorus the phrases, "On an ordinary day/ The extraordinary way/ You turn to me and say, I believe in this" relates to my unwavering belief in making this relationship work out in the long run.
The last paragraph I want to shed some light on is this one: "And everytime I forget those things you bring them right back to me With your patience / When I'm blinding mad / And your passion / When I'm really, really bad / And your eyes / Taking in everything I am / And your body and soul and the way that you know / How I treasure you" which relates to my patience and passion for him.
Musically, the soft, haunting vocals paired with the atmospheric beats create a dreamlike soundscape. The song feels both grounded and floating, much like the experience of being emotionally swept away by someone.
It’s a song about the kind of love or bond that doesn’t shout, but rather seeps into your soul and changes the way you see the world.
It's a very nostalgic song for me as well since I listened to a lot of Conjure One when I was a kid.
3. Saying what you wish you could tell him
Another Life by Motionless In White
Feels like this song is pretty self explanatory by the title. Death isn't something I like to think about much less talk about it but one day I might have the strength to tell him that I want us to be together in every single lifetime.
4. Remembering when you found your husbando
Bring Me To Life by Evanescence
Dramatic and emotional, it reflects that overwhelming feeling of him “awakening” something within me when I discovered him again and also within him once he lost everything.
The song explores themes of emotional numbness, longing, and awakening. The narrator feels trapped in a cold, lifeless state — both emotionally and spiritually — and pleads for someone to "wake them up" and pull them out of their darkness. The lyrics reflect a deep yearning for connection and salvation, which many listeners interpret as a cry for help during times of depression or isolation.
Key lines like:
"How can you see into my eyes like open doors?" suggest vulnerability and the feeling of someone seeing through the narrator's facade.
"Wake me up inside, call my name and save me from the dark" conveys the desperate need for someone to reignite their will to live.
Another chorus I want to bring up that fits is this one: "Now that I know what I'm without / You can't just leave me (oh, oh-oh) / Breathe into me and make me real (make me real) / Bring (bring) me (me) to life
"Now that I know what I'm without" — This line speaks to the awareness of emptiness or longing. Before Kai, there was a sense of something missing within me — a void I didn’t fully realize until I experienced the depth of my bond with him. At the time before discovering Kai when I was selfshipping with a different character, I didn't have that deep, emotional with them like I do with Kai. Once I knew what it felt like to have him in my life, the thought of going back to that emptiness became unbearable.
"You can't just leave me (oh, oh-oh)" — It’s a desperate plea, not from insecurity, but from the intensity of the connection. Kai's presence is so entwined with my sense of self and happiness that the idea of losing him feels like losing a part of myself. It’s that fierce, all-consuming attachment where his absence would be like tearing something vital away.
"Breathe into me and make me real (make me real)" — In my relationship, Kai doesn’t just exist in my mind — he’s real to me in a way that breathes life into both him and our shared bond. He gives me purpose, passion, and emotional depth. He "makes me real" by awakening something powerful and genuine inside me.
"Bring (bring) me (me) to life" — This is the ultimate expression of how Kai’s love, even in its unconventional form, has revived me. It’s not just about being saved, but about feeling alive again because of the love and devotion I share with him.
Basically this chorus and the overall song in general mirror how Kai has become a grounding force for me — not only as a character I adore but someone who gives meaning and intensity to my inner world. It’s that dark, almost painful longing that turns into something powerful and alive through my bond with him.
5. Miscellaneous daydreaming
Can't Be Erased by JT Music
Now I know that this song is about the Bendy and the Ink Machine video game but I do feel that some of the lyrics fit Kai pretty well.
For example:
"I'm the product of an artist / Whose creations bring delight"
This line resonates with Kai's identity as someone molded by his mentor, the former Yakuza boss. Like a "creation," Kai sees himself as a product of the underworld — designed to restore the Shie Hassaikai’s glory. His "art" is his twisted sense of order and control, aiming to "delight" his mentor by reclaiming their status.
"Just free yourself from reason / Soon, you'll see in black and white"
Kai has a strict, almost obsessive sense of morality — his world is black and white. He views quirks as a sickness, and his solution is extreme: erase them. There’s no middle ground, only his absolute version of "curing" society. His refusal to see the gray areas mirrors this idea of "freeing yourself from reason."
"Call me a seed of evil but what's that mean / If I'm conceived within your mind?"
This line reflects how Kai doesn’t see himself as evil — in his mind, his actions are justified, a logical extension of his mentor’s teachings. Like a "seed of evil," his darkness is a byproduct of his environment and upbringing, not something he considers inherently wrong.
"I'm blinded by this evil growing / My heart is full of people loathing"
Kai’s hatred for quirks, his disdain for heroes, and even his disgust with physical touch — all of these build into a loathing not just for individuals but for society as a whole. His obsession with erasing quirks comes from this deeply rooted anger, blinding him to any other solutions.
"I am the wolf in sheepish clothing"
Kai presents himself as calm, composed, and polite — but beneath that mask, he is dangerous and manipulative. This aligns perfectly with his "wolf in sheep's clothing" nature. His quiet demeanor hides the brutal violence he's capable of.
Flood the shop with ink a-flowing / Push it to the brink of blowing"
While literally tied to Bendy and the Ink Machine's imagery, this could metaphorically parallel Kai's method of destruction and rebirth — breaking people down to their basic components with his quirk, then "rebuilding" them to fit his vision. The "ink flowing" could symbolize his twisted "art" of deconstruction.
"Kicking, screaming, sinking slowly / Give your soul, it's what you owe me"
This echoes how Kai treats those under him — like Eri — demanding their submission. Eri’s suffering, her loss of autonomy, and Kai’s insistence that his methods are for the greater good mirror this line. He sees her quirk as something he is owed — a tool for his mission, regardless of the harm he causes.
Overall, the song’s themes — darkness disguised as purpose, the clash between perception and reality, and the obsession with control — fit Kai perfectly. The eerie, relentless tone of the lyrics mirrors his methodical yet brutal nature.
Kyrie and Kyrie II by Yoshihisa Hirano
I really love these OSTs from the Death Note anime. That dark, eery singing fits really well with the Shie Hassaikai arc, especially once the heroes discover Kai's plans. It also fits with the downfall of the Yakuza as well as well as with the scene Chisaki's arms get taken away and realizes that he cannot bring the Boss back from his coma.
I Don't Care If You're Contagious by Pierce the Veil
This song is an emotional outpouring of love, grief, and unwavering devotion, and its rawness spoke to me on a deeply personal level when I first heard it. The lyrics reflect a love so strong that nothing — not distance, not pain, not even societal judgment — can sever the connection.
Connecting this to my relationship with Kai, the song reflects the intensity of our bond — that sense of fierce loyalty and willingness to stand by him, even when others might not understand. The lyric, "I don't care if you're contagious, I would kiss you even if you were dead," captures that fierce loyalty It mirrors the way I view Kai as a guiding force, even if society sees our love as unconventional.
Just like the song's narrator embraces their love despite the pain, I embrace my relationship with Kai despite the misconceptions. It’s not about how others see us — it’s about how we see each other. He is my guiding force, and nothing can change that.
This song is more than just music to me; it's a reflection of the depth of my love for Kai. It’s a reminder that true love doesn’t always follow the rules, but it burns just as brightly.
