Canon Events
1. What's your favourite quote from your husbando?
"They're all sick, every last one of them."
It's the quote I used to name this website after all. I absolutely love the way that line was delivered with how eerily he says it and how he is standing there ominously before the carnage he caused when he took down the Team Reservoir Dogs.
2. Saddest moment?
When he started screaming at the realization that he was unable to bring the boss out of his coma after the League of Villains took away his arms and the Quirk erasing bullets.
3. Coolest moment?
When he started fusing with his comrades mid-fight.
4. Cutest thing he has ever done?
He hasn't done anything intentionally cute because come on..look at the man but during the making of this website, there was a particular GIF I wanted to use and had to make myself so I sifted through the episodes of season 4 and came across the scene I wanted but there was a part in there which made me squeal on the inside. And it was this:
His eyes glowing in joy when he was explaining his plan is just downright adorable! Even though his plan involved the unethical treatment of a child.
5. Are there any scenes you would change?
In terms of season 4 and 6, i.e. the seasons that Kai appears in, I wouldn't change anything about them. He has a pretty solid introduction and the entire Shie Hassaikai arc is top notch as well in my opinion. The fights are really cool and Kai actually received consequences for his actions.
Season 6 is pretty solid as well with how his character was treated. I do like how crazed he became since he'd been reduced to a shell of his former self after everything. I am really happy that he was actually shown again in the first place. You would expect to not hear anything from him again after he was arrested but I'm glad that we had gotten more content of him.
What I do find dissapointing though is that with Kai we are left with more questions than answers. We barely know anything about how he came to be except for the fact that he is a mirror of Shigaraki. It's confusing as to why Horikoshi decided to not follow up on his backstory.
What's really weird is that when his foster father was chewing him out for his actions, he told him that Kurono wasn't hard enough on him which is such a strange thing to say considering it was the Boss' responsibility to look after Kai.
Relationship Dynamics
1. Who does your husbando get along with?
Canonically, the only people that Kai gets along with and shows genuine care to is his foster father and his childhood friend and right-hand man, Hari Kurono since he is the only person that Kai doesn't treat as disposable.
2.Does he have any enemies?
Yes, he does. Kai’s ruthless and uncompromising nature has earned him many enemies. Most notably, Izuku Midoriya (Deku) and Sir Nighteye have clashed with him. The heroes saw him as a significant threat due to his dangerous Quirk and his criminal activities.
He has a tense relationship with the League of Villains, particularly with Tomura Shigaraki. Their alliance is rocky, and there is a lot of mistrust and power struggles between them.
Even within his own organization, the Shie Hassaikai, there were members who didn't fully agree with his methods or leadership style.
3. Do you ship your husbando with anyone?
I am not a shipper myself so I don't have any strong opinions about it in general nor do I ship anyone in any media I consume. That said though, I do kind of like the ship between Kai and Hari, the classic childhood friends become lovers trope. I don't actively consume any content of them but whenever I come across art of them out in the wild, I think "Oh, this art is cute." And I move on.
4. What's your husbando NOTP?
There's three ships that I would consider a NOTP of mine which are: Shigahaul, Nagahaul and Dabihaul.
Shigahaul is the one I hate the most because not only do Shigaraki and Overhaul hate each other but Shigaraki was literally the one who disintegrated one of his arms. Also I just do not fuck with Shigaraki in general. As interesting as his character is, I just cannot stand him.
Nagahaul, I just find it to be plain weird since it feels like people pair them together just because Nagant is a woman. During the Tartarus outbreak, she only brought Kai along with her because she found him useful. Sure, she showed pity to him because he was a victim of the heroic society but she was also willing to put his life in danger to distract and gain an advantage over Izuku, knowing how failing to save someone will weigh heavily on a hero's conscience (granted Izuku pointed out that Nagant wasn't serious about killing Kai because the trajectory of the bullet she fired at him was off).
When both of them were on top of a building, after Izuku dodged more than one of her bullets, she puts him into hiding in the bulkhead/the rooftop access hatch of the building, she then remarks that maybe she should have ditched him before. Case in point, she isn't that fond of him.
With Dabihaul, both of them literally have never interacted with each other at all so I have no idea where this ship came from.
Character Analysis
1. How do you feel about your husbando's character arc?
Putting my biases aside, I do like his arc and the season he debuted in. I love how menacing he is and the feeling of uneasiness he gives off. I loved seeing just how far he was willing to achieve his goal, showing just how cruel and psychotic he is. Honestly a really good villain. His downfall was well deserved and I like the symbolism of him losing his quirk and everything he worked for as that was what defined him. It was his entire identity.
For Kai, his quirk was not just a tool, but a central part of his identity. It embodied his philosophy of breaking down and "curing" the world of quirks. Losing it meant losing his perceived power and control, both over his own life and his grand vision for society.
His downfall is reminiscent of the classic theme of hubris—excessive pride leading to one's downfall. He believed his vision and methods were infallible, but his quirk was violently taken from him by Tomura Shigaraki, symbolizing his fall from grace. This serves as a reminder that no matter how powerful someone believes themselves to be, they are still vulnerable.
Without his quirk, Kai is forced to confront his own humanity. He can no longer rely on his powers to impose his will on others, making him more vulnerable both physically and emotionally. You've got Kai Chisaki, post-Overhaul, alone and forgotten, abandoned and dirty, unable to care for himself, just like he was as a child. Started on the streets, and then ended up back on the streets.
His character arc is a journey from power and control to defeat and vulnerability. His complex motivations and tragic background make him a compelling antagonist in the My Hero Academia franchise.
2. What are some of his strengths and weaknesses?
Some of his strengths include:
And some of his weaknesses are:
3. What's a question you want answered about him?
What the hell happened to him during his childhood for him to end up in an orphanage and how did he escape from there? Why was he on the streets where the Boss found him? Was he thrown out or did Garaki just let him go? Did he accidentally kill his parents? We've only been given crumbs of his backstory and nothing more. It was revealed that his quirk was copied and given to Shigaraki (without the restorative ability) without him knowing so we know he was experimented on but other than that, we know nothing else about his backstory.
4. What is the most important part of his characterization?
Kai in general is a pretty layered character with many facets that contribute to his complexity. I'd say that the most important part of his characterization is his obsessive drive for control and order which is deeply rooted in his backstory and is reflected in his actions, beliefs, and goals.
His quirk allows him to disassemble and reassemble matter at will. This power symbolizes his desire to take everything apart and put it back together in a way that aligns with his vision of a disease-free, orderly world. His backstory, which includes his loyalty to the Shie Hassaikai and his relationship with his foster father, influences his extreme actions as he feels that he is indebted to him after he was taken off the streets by him.
What stands out most is Kai's extreme measures to achieve his goals, including his use of Eri to create Quirk-erasing bullets which shows his willingness to go to any lengths, even if it means causing immense suffering to others, to bring about his version of a perfect world.
5. What are some common misconceptions about your husbando?
Oh boy, there is a good amount of them, chief among them being:
That he abused Eri for his own sick pleasure,
And those are the ones that I remember off the top of my head.
6. How would you describe his outlook on life/personal philosophy?
I would describe his outlook on life to be indifferent almost pessimistic since he is shown to be emotionally detached from people and from the world since he operates under the belief that the world is "sick" and seeks to "overhaul" it, eradicating what he sees as imperfections. His approach is highly methodical, almost clinical, and he values cleanliness and order above all else.
His philosophy is deeply influenced by a sense of superiority and a desire for control which often lead to ruthless and morally ambiguous actions.
7. If he was real, is your husbando the kind of guy you could get along with?
I am a fairly easy-going person in general and I get along with almost everyone, no matter their age. I do feel that I could get along with him with a bit of prying.
Official Appearances
1. Which official artwork is your favourite?
This one!
2. What do you think of his theme music?
I really like it! It fits his character to a T. I find it brilliant that his theme is a mix of hip-hop/trap and traditional Japanese music. Rap is a pretty recent reinvention of hip-hop, matching Kai's ability to deconstruct and reconstruct well. Yet he wants to bring back the era before Quirks, when the Yakuza ruled Japan's criminal underworld. The Yakuza hold themselves to pretty traditional standards, so it makes sense to bring in traditional elements of music. It's a perfect theme for a character using modern tools to bring back the past.
3. Which husbando outfit/form do you like best?
He doesn't have many outfits but I like his OG outfit the best. People give him flack for his jacket saying that it's ugly but I personally love it. And I have already mentioned that I like his first fusion with Nemoto.
4. Does he have merchandise? Do you own any?
He does have merchandise albeit not that much. I do own some that I have listed in the Misc section of the shrine.
